Rawan Sayed Suleiman, an architecture graduate from Homs, has transformed her passion for modern Arabic calligraphy into a contemporary visual language that blends the beauty of the Arabic letter with its spiritual and intellectual depth. Her work reflects a unique artistic vision where words become expressive, meaningful artworks.

A Spontaneous Beginning That Led to the Stage

Rawan explains that her artistic journey began spontaneously as a personal outlet for emotions and ideas. Her turning point came during her first live drawing performance on the stage of the Homs Cultural Center, an experience that shaped her artistic identity and opened new creative horizons.

A Style Rooted in Simplicity and Meaning

Her artistic approach is characterized by:

         Simplicity and calmness in composition

Emphasis on the meaning of the word rather than its form

Inspiration drawn from modern calligraphy and expressive abstraction

A commitment to developing her own style away from imitation

Rawan often chooses Qur’anic verses for her artworks due to their profound spiritual and human meanings, presenting them visually in a way that preserves their sanctity and emotional resonance.

A Home Studio for Experimentation and Innovation

Her home studio serves as her primary creative space, where ideas evolve into emotions and then into complete artworks. She is currently working on a new project that merges Arabic calligraphy with carpet art, creating a modern visual fusion that expands the expressive possibilities of the Arabic letter.

Artistic Participation and a Message of Impact

Rawan’s first public participation was in the “Athar” project during the Peace Festival last October, followed by several bazaars and artistic events. She emphasizes that her mission is to show that a sincere word can leave a lasting impact on people’s hearts.

A Message to Youth: Start with What You Have

Rawan encourages young artists not to wait for perfect conditions but to begin with whatever resources they have, as the first step is always the most important.

Calligraphy as an Art Form

Calligraphy—derived from the Greek term for “beautiful writing”—is the art of transforming letters into harmonious visual compositions using tools such as broad‑nib pens and brushes. It is widely used in:

         Wall decoration

         Logo and branding design

    Invitations and artistic prints

        Contemporary visual art
